This post was developed in partnership with Tom’s of Maine. All opinions are my own.

Over the past few years, I have slowly been changing out the products I use for ones with natural ingredients. This transition started when I became pregnant with my daughter, Kayleigh. I knew I wanted to use natural products with my children, as I was concerned about ingredients in various household products and their effect on our well-being.

Finding the right products for my family has taken a bit of trial and error, and I am not absolutely perfect in my endeavors to use only natural products, but I have taken a huge step in the right direction. As they say, any progress is good progress. When I go shopping now, I try to take a look at the ingredients list in the products I buy, and look for simple ingredients lists with ingredients that I recognize.

I was born and raised in the state of Maine, so when I finally made the #DeoSwitch, naturally I chose to switch to Tom’s of Maine natural deodorant. I was really drawn to all of the different varieties available – unscented, lavender, powder, tea tree, apricot and lemongrass.

Tom's of Maine Natural Deodorant

I really like wearing the unscented version when I am spending time outside going for walks, playing with the kids, gardening, etc. I find that it helps to keep the bugs away from me, as there is no scent for them to be attracted to.

Tom's of Maine Natural Deodorant Unscented

My favorite of all of the scents is the natural powder one, but I really do enjoy them all. I have been using this deodorant for a little while now, and it really does work very well.

Tom's of Maine Natural Deodorant Powder

Tom’s of Maine is a company that I trust. They make high quality natural toothpaste, mouthwash, dental floss, deodorant, bar soap and baby care products, and their team consists of distinguished dentists, scientists and herbal experts that are leaders in their fields. I love that they have developed  a wide range of products and choices so people can decide what best fits with their needs and values.

Tom’s of Maine natural deodorant contains no aluminum, artificial fragrances or preservatives and no petrochemicals, and offers clinically proven, 24-hour odor protection using odor-fighting hops, the mineral zinc and only natural fragrances.

One more thing I really love about Tom’s of Maine is their fully recyclable packaging through local municipalities or the TerraCycle Tom’s of Maine Natural Care Brigade. I think it’s so great that they not only offer natural products, but packaging that can be easily recycled too. If that wasn’t enough, they also give 10% of their profits back to helping people and the planet!

A Note About Natural Products:

When trying a natural personal care product for the first time it’s important to give your body time to adjust. If your body is used to a conventional product, you might need a little time to adjust to a natural formula free of chemicals and artificial ingredients. Trying the deodorant for at least 3-7 days, including testing out different scents (or unscented), can help determine the best fit for your body’s unique chemistry.

Create Healthy Habits in 30 Days with Nature Made®

Comments Off on Create Healthy Habits in 30 Days with Nature Made®
Mar 182016

This post was sponsored by Nature Made® as a part of an Influencer Activation for Influence Central.

Having two kids in the last three years was quite a challenge for me. During both of my pregnancies, I really lost all motivation to stay fit and active, or to watch my diet. After my babies were born, my unhealthy habits grew even worse. I started eating unhealthy foods even more, as I was always busy taking care of my babies, and I didn’t feel like I had the time to eat healthy. Most of the time, I grabbed whatever I could find in the house – chips, cookies, etc. and ate it as quickly as I could, so I could get back to what I was doing. This caused me to gain a lot of weight quickly, make me feel bad about myself, and hate the example I was setting for my kids.

With a little push from friends and family who were all feeling the same way, we decided to make a change, together. Since the beginning of the year, with the help of my support system, I have been doing my best to live a healthier lifestyle. I learned to create healthy habits, such as watching portion sizes, adding more fruits and veggies into my diet, cutting out soda and processed foods, drinking more water and getting moderate exercise almost every day. I’m happy to say that I am down 16 pounds and 2 pant sizes, and feeling pretty good!

While I have seen a boost in my energy levels since I started eating healthier and exercising, I still struggle to get myself in gear most days. As a Mom of a 1 year old and a 2.5 year old, life is pretty chaotic most of the time, and by the end of the day, I’m left feeling completely worn out.

While I had gotten in the habit of taking a daily multivitamin and Vitamin D every day, after having my son last year, I felt like I could really benefit from taking something extra – something that would give me more energy.

I recently took a trip to Walmart to check out Nature Made® vitamins, and the one that really interested me the most was the Super B-Complex, which provides cellular energy production (it converts food into cellular energy!) and antioxidant support.

Create Healthy Habits with Nature Made

B vitamins are also necessary for normal functioning of the nervous system and the Super B-Complex formula contains high levels of B vitamins and C vitamins for antioxidant support, and to help support a healthy immune system. I really like this, because, as you know, little kids get sick so often and in turn get their parents sick. So, I would really like to give my immune system a boost as well.

Create Healthy Habits with Nature Made

I have to say, Nature Made® is pretty awesome. Their vitamins are made from carefully selected ingredients under strict manufacturing processes, so you know they are high quality, but they are also very affordable. I love that I can get that at Walmart, without having to wait for a sale.

Nature Made® is also the nation’s #1 best-selling brand for quality vitamins, minerals and supplements* to help support nutritional gaps. They really care about their consumers, too, which is why they have created a 30-Day Healthy Habit Builder Program to help you create healthy habits. You can participate by selecting four habits you’d like to build over the course of 30 days. Then, complete weekly challenges to help you establish a routine and begin your journey to a healthier you! You, also, can get rewarded as you progress with prizes, coupons, and more. Upon signing up you’ll be automatically entered to win a grand prize of $5,000. How great is that?!

Even though I have already started to create healthy habits in my life, there are still some areas that I want to improve. I am trying to gain more energy, so the four habits I have selected for this challenge are to get at least 7-9 hours of sleep every night, take time to recharge every day (very important for us Moms!!), watch an hour less of TV each day and to remember to take a lunch break every day. I think these are all reasonable expectations that I can easily meet, and I am excited to get started on this journey.

I would love to hear how you plan to create healthy habits this year. Do you take vitamins and supplements on a regular basis? Will you join the 30-Day Healthy Habit Builder Program, and if so, what are the four habits you will build?

I’m excited to partner with Nature Made®  on this Influencer Activation for Influence Central to share how and why I am adding vitamins and supplements to my daily routine and to share this great giveaway for one of 20 $50 WalMart gift cards. The contest closes on March 19, 2016.

I-C will randomly select 20 winners from all program entries and will handle fulfillment of the winning prizes.

St. Patrick’s Day is coming up very soon, and it also happens to be my sister’s birthday. I’m not sure what she has to say about it, but having a birthday on a holiday seems pretty fun to me. I have always had a blast celebrating her birthday over the years because I really love going all out with the St. Patrick’s Day theme. I loved to bake her a cake or cupcakes decorated with candy shamrocks, give her gifts that were all green in color, and for many years we would go to McDonald’s to fill our bellies up with a minty shamrock shake, too. This post contains affiliate links and I may earn a commission if you make a purchase after clicking on a link in this post.

Now that my sister and I are older and have children, things are a little different. As a Mom, I know that taking time to pamper yourself is really important, so for my sister’s birthday this year, I made her a gift that she can use to make her tired feet feel a little better – a Green Tea and Peppermint Sea Salt Foot Scrub.

Green Tea & Peppermint Sea Salt Foot Scrub

This foot scrub is loaded up with some really great stuff for the skin – coconut oil, green tea, sea salt, peppermint essential oil, lemon, and even spinach. This foot scrub smells absolutely incredible. I found myself going back over and over again just to smell it. This foot scrub also leaves the skin feeling so soft and smooth. I just love it! I will definitely be making another batch to keep for myself.

I originally added the spinach to this foot scrub to try to give it a naturally green color, but the green tea kind of overpowered it, so in the end I had to add 2 drops of green food coloring to give it that nice green color. You can absolutely leave the food coloring out if you want to – it will be a sort of white/brown color. The spinach is still really great for the skin, though, as it is full of antioxidants and can help with inflammation, so I decided to just leave it as part of the recipe.

Get the Ingredients!

Viva Naturals Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, 16 Ounce doTERRA Peppermint Essential Oil – 15ml Twinings Green Tea, Green & Lemon, 20 Count Bagged Tea (6 Pack) Realemon 100% Lemon Juice, 15 oz Coarse Salt – Sea Salt – Natural, Unrefined Sea Salt – More Minerals Than Himalayan Pink or Rock Salt – Substitute for Iodized Sea Salt – Unprocessed & Hand Harvested By Artisans – 100% Satisfaction Lifetime Guarantee McCormick Green Food Color, 1 fl oz

Green Tea & Peppermint Sea Salt Foot Scrub

  1. Combine water, spinach, 3 of the green tea with lemon tea bags and lemon juice in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil.
  2. Turn heat down to low and simmer for approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes, or until the liquid has concentrated down to about 2 tablespoons remaining.
  3. Remove spinach and tea bags from liquid, making sure to squeeze all of the liquid out of them into the saucepan first.
  4. Allow concentrated liquid to cool.
  5. In a small bowl, combine sea salt and concentrated liquid.
  6. Add coconut oil that has been slightly softened.
  7. Add contents of last tea bag, essential oil, and food coloring, if desired.

Store your green tea & peppermint sea salt foot scrub in an airtight container.

What You Need to Know About Migraines

I created this post as part of a campaign by Teva Pharmaceuticals. I received an American Express gift card for participating.

What You Need to Know About Migraines

What You Need to Know About Migraines

Have you ever had a migraine? If not, you may not really understand just how awful they can be. Migraines are not just a regular headache.  I have had regular headaches, and migraines are much, much worse.

I have had several migraines throughout my lifetime, and they are absolutely debilitating. I started getting migraines when I was about 12 years old, which means I have suffered with them for over 20 years now.

There are many things that can trigger a migraine – stress, medications, loud noises, bright or flashing lights, foods or beverages, missing a meal, and fatigue.  I have noticed that hormonal changes, such as when I have my period, during the first trimester of pregnancy, or in the weeks after giving birth, trigger migraines for me.  I also have a hard time with bright and flashing lights.  It always bothers me when I am watching a television show or a movie and there is suddenly a very bright light or flashing lights. I have to close my eyes and look away until the scene is over with.  Another trigger for me is the weather. I almost always get a migraine on overcast days.

Migraines can last anywhere from 4 to 72 hours.  Mine usually last for 2-3 days and the pain comes and goes in waves.  One minute I will be feeling okay, thinking that the migraine has finally left, and then suddenly the pain just comes rushing back and lasts for several hours.  It completely disrupts my life, especially now that I have two young kids that I need to take care of.  I can’t just leave them alone to go lay down in a dark room, so I am left to suffer through the pain.

Migraines really are truly painful.  Symptoms vary for individuals who suffer from migraines, and each attack can feel entirely different.  I have birthed 2 kids completely naturally, without medication, and I didn’t take any pain medication after my umbilical hernia surgery 2 years ago, so I know I have a rather high tolerance for pain, but those migraines are no joke.  Sometimes it feels like someone is banging on my head repeatedly with a hammer.  Other times it feels like someone is poking a screwdriver through my eyeball.  I honestly would rather go through a med-free labor again, than to have a migraine.  It really is that bad.

Migraines leave me feeling completely useless, as all I want to do is lay down in a dark room until it passes.  Standing up while I have a migraine makes me feel dizzy, and I get so nauseous that I don’t even want to think about eating.  Watching TV, or typing on the computer or my cell phone is completely out of the question, as the light just bothers me too much.  I can’t read anything, as the words just look all blurry to me.  I am also very sensitive to sound, which is not an easy thing to deal with when you have two young kids.

Migraines rank in the top 3 of the world’s most prevalent conditions.  Did you know that nearly 36 million Americans suffer from migraines, including its various characteristics? That is a whole lot of people!  18% of American women and 6% of men suffer from migraines.  They seem to run in my family, as my Mom and my sisters both suffer from migraines, too.

It’s hard to believe we are half-way through January already, and it’s even harder to believe that I haven’t broken my New Year’s resolution yet – getting healthy! This year, I have vowed to become a happier, healthier person, for myself, my husband and my children, and I’m getting them all involved too! I think working together as a family unit has really helped us to keep our momentum going.

How are you doing on your resolutions for the new year? Are you still on track? Today I am partnering with Gerber® Good Start® to share my family’s #FormulaForHappiness for the New Year. After listening to consumer feedback, and hearing that most parents wanted a formula free of genetically engineered ingredients, they decided to do just that! Now all Gerber® Good Start® infant formulas are free of genetically engineered ingredients. I love it when companies listen to their consumers, don’t you?! That is something that really makes me happy.

Speaking of happy, my family has made several lifestyle changes this year that have greatly improved our overall happiness. I think it’s so important for every family to have their own #FormulaForHappiness and to make the most out of each and every day.

Here are 5 things we are doing to be happy and healthy in the new year:

5 Ways to be Happy & Healthy in the New Year

Eating Healthy Foods – My husband, John, and I had completely fallen into a rut last year. We were eating very unhealthy foods all the time, ordering take out a few times a week, eating giant portions of food, drinking soda, etc. While we felt a little sense of happiness during the few minutes in which we stuffed our faces with all of that bad food, we immediately felt disgusted with ourselves after. We were left feeling overweight and lethargic – not great for happiness.

We now eat as clean as we possibly can, cutting out sugar, bad carbs, starches, junk food. We no longer order out, and we make our own meals every morning, noon and night, using lots of lean protein and fresh fruits and vegetables. Our kids (Kayleigh, 2.5 years old and Logan, 10 months) have been enjoying the healthy foods with us, and I love that we are now setting a good example for them, and making sure that they are eating good foods to fuel their growing bodies. They are happy, even when their faces are covered with sweet potatoes!

Logan sweet potatoes

Getting Active – John and I normally aren’t very active people. We love to be couch potatoes and spend the day playing video games, but we realized that was really doing us no good. So, we’ve been getting out of the house more with the kids. Before the snow came recently, we went to the playground a lot to swing and run around. Now, we like to bring the kids out to places like the pet store where they can be entertained, and we can get some exercise by walking around. I have also been dancing and doing yoga with the kids during the day while John is at work. They absolutely love running around and getting all of that energy out, and I have a lot of fun with them and getting some exercise myself.

kids swinging

Spending Quality Time Together – In addition to being more active with our kids, we have been spending more quality time together. At night, we like to turn off the television, put down our phones, computers and mobile devices, and wind down from our busy day together. We all sit on the couch and read stories together. Then, when it’s time for bed, John rocks Logan to sleep and I rock Kayleigh to sleep. We love the bonding time with the kids, and I really think it helps them to sleep better at night. I also get plenty of cuddle time in with the kids during the day. They seem to be happier and more relaxed at bed time.

me and logan

Keeping a Clean Home – I’ll be the first to admit that trying to keep your home clean when you have a toddler and an infant is pretty hard, but I really think it is important to keep it as clean as you can. I know I always feel so much happier and relaxed when my house is clean and organized, and my kids are happier when I am happy. So, I set aside an hour every day to quickly tidy up – wash the dishes, take care of laundry, take out the trash, vacuum, wash down the table and countertops, etc. I get Kayleigh to help me with as many things as she can, and when Logan is old enough, I will get him involved too.

Getting Enough Sleep – There have been many times in my life when I would stay up until 2 or 3am, just browsing the internet or watching television, then I would wake up really early in the morning and feel absolutely lousy, and my whole day would be ruined because I had zero energy. John and I have always put the kids to bed by 7:30 at night, because we felt it was important for them to have a sleep schedule and to get enough sleep every night, but we weren’t doing that for ourselves. So, we have started to get ourselves ready for bed by 10:30pm every night, instead of staying up into the early morning hours.

What is your #FormulaForHappiness this year? What do you think of the Non-GMO initiative?

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Blog post sponsored by Mega-T. . All opinions are 100% mine.

It’s the beginning of a new year, and people everywhere are making goals to get in shape and lose weight, myself included.

After having 2 kids in the last 3 years, I really need to get back in shape and lose about 40 pounds to be at a comfortable weight. My sister is getting married in August, and I hope to reach my goal weight by that time.

I have already made a few lifestyle changes to help me reach my goals.  I have cut out soda, sugar and bad carbs, joined a facebook weight loss support group and started exercising and drinking more water.

After just one week of staying on track with my new lifestyle changes, I am already starting to feel better about myself. I don’t feel so tired and run down or bloated. I have more energy, and I am not craving bad food as much as I used to.

Even though I am already starting to see changes, I’d really like to do a little something extra to kick my weight loss into high gear. I’ve been seriously thinking about trying a supplement like Mega-T® Advanced. It is a unique multi-functional day and night formula combination that provides weight loss and better sleep, and I think I could really benefit from that.

undefinedMega-T® Advanced helps to control hunger by giving your body the feeling of being full longer during the day. This is great because I usually graze all day long, never really feeling full or satisfied. I would love to not feel so hungry all the time during the day.

The day time is not easy for me, but night time is definitely the hardest time of the day for me to control my food cravings. The kids have just gone to bed, and it’s the first free time I have had to myself all day. My attention turns to all of the bad food in the house, and it’s really hard to resist it. Mega-T® Advanced has a unique formulation that provides support to curb evening and night time cravings, something I desperately need!

I really love that Mega-T® Advanced is caffeine free, and that it contains ingredients that have been clinically tested. There are two key active ingredients – Synetrim CQ is in the day and night time caplets and helps with weight loss, and Sensoril is just in the night time caplet, and it helps to reduce stress and also to promote sleep! As a tired Mom to a 2.5 year old and a 10 month old, that is something that makes me very happy!

If you would like to try out Mega-T® Advanced, you can print out a $5.00 Mega-T Advanced Coupon to save some money on your purchase! Mega-T® Advanced is available at Walgreens now, and it will be available at Rite Aid in late January.

It’s the beginning of a new year, and something has been weighing heavily on my mind. It’s something that can make you feel great and want to get out of the house and do things, or it can make you want to stay at home and hide from the world every day. If you haven’t already guessed it, I’m talking about self confidence.

Even though I’m entering my mid-30’s this year, and should have the whole self confidence thing down by now, I still struggle. After giving birth to my daughter in 2013, and my son in 2015, my self confidence was at an all time low. I gained weight with both of my pregnancies, and just let myself go in pretty much all aspects of my life.

Now that my son is 10 months old, I am finally starting to return to my old self and get some of that self confidence back that I once had. One of the biggest hurdles I had to overcome was taking care of myself, in the midst of caring for a toddler and an infant. When you become a Mom, this thing happens to you, where you just don’t even think about yourself anymore, and you do anything and everything for your children first and foremost.

As important as it is to take care of your children, it is equally important to take care of yourself. It has taken me a long time to learn that, but now that I have, I am going to start making some serious changes. I need to feel comfortable with my own body again, and have self confidence. When I am happy, my kids and my husband are happy too.

Me and Logan

There are a few things I wish I had done immediately after having each of my kids to help me get my self confidence back quicker, and today, I am going to share them with you. If you have recently had a baby, whether it was yesterday, or even a few years ago, here are 5 tips to regain self confidence after having a baby.

Me and Logan

  1. Get a hair cut. After I gave birth to my kids, I just didn’t feel good about myself. I was so tired all the time, wearing clothes that had spit up all over them, and my hair was always an absolute mess. It wasn’t until I finally got a much needed hair cut that I started to feel a little better about myself. A new hair cut can really make you feel like a million bucks!
  2. Buy new clothes. I have a confession to make. I wore my maternity clothes for about a year after I had my daughter. I also wore pajama pants almost every single day. Ugh. I had no clothes that fit my new body, and I just felt miserable and didn’t want to go shopping. A couple of months after I had my son, I gave all of my maternity clothes away to a pregnant friend. That forced me to go shopping for new clothes that actually fit my body, and that made me feel more confident.
  3. Exercise. Exercise is so important for a lot of reasons. It helps keep you strong and gives you energy to keep up with your kids. It also elevates your mood, and boosts self confidence! After your doctor or midwife gives you the ok, go ahead and start getting in a little bit of exercise every day. It doesn’t even have to be a boring run on the treadmill – take your kids for a walk, chase them around the back yard, dance with them in the living room. Get creative and see what fun things you can do with your kids. It likely won’t even feel like exercise!
  4. Eat healthy foods. I was so busy taking care of a toddler and an infant, that I would often times just shove any food I could find in my mouth when I had a free moment. Things like chips, chocolate, or donuts are so easy to just open and eat on the run, but they are not healthy for you, and will make you feel awful about yourself. Eating healthy really helps you to feel your best.
  5. Stock up on Poise Pads. Now that I have had two children, let’s just say that I have a hard time laughing, running, coughing, sneezing, etc., without a little bladder leakage. Pregnancy really did a number on my body, and for a long time I let it hold me back. I used to stay home because I was afraid I would be out somewhere with the kids, and have an accident, and that was just really embarrassing and something I tried to avoid as much as I could. I have come to realize, though, that I am missing out on so many fun activities with my kids, and I am keeping them from doing them as well. I don’t want to live my life like that, so now, I put my trust in Poise Maximum Absorbency Pads, specifically designed for bladder leakage.

Poise Maximum Absorbency Pads

Did you know that 1 in 3 women experience light bladder leakage? I’m glad to know I’m not alone! Poise Maximum Absorbency Pads have an Absorb-Loc® core that quickly locks away wetness and odor, and Leak-Block® sides that give you discreet and worry free protection. If that wasn’t enough already, they also have a Dry-Touch® layer that helps to keep you feeling dry and fresh. Poise pads instantly absorb wetness, so they stay 3X drier than leading period-only pads.

Now that I know I am protected from embarrassing bladder leakages situations, my confidence has come back and I am enjoying spending time with my friends and family. Before using Poise Maximum Absorbency Pads, I would either make up some excuse to stay home, or I would leave the party early because I just couldn’t relax. Now, I have no worry on my mind and stay at the party for as long as I want!

me and family

Poise Maximum Absorbency Pads are available at Sam’s Club, in-store, and online. If you are a Sam’s Club Member, you will save $7 when you purchase the 117 count box, which is 3 packages of 39 pads.  Sam’s Club also carries Poise Very Light Absorbancy Liners (132 count) and you save $4 when you are a member. As a member of Sam’s Club, you will also enjoy free (and discreet) shipping on select products, club pick up, and you can save time by setting up subscriptions!
I have enjoyed shopping at Sam’s Club for many years. I love that I can stock up on the items I use on a daily basis, including Poise Maximum Absorbency Pads. They are one thing that I never want to be caught without!

This post is sponsored by the all-new Turbo10 program from Nutrisystem.Turbo10As cliche as it may sound, I am making a New Year’s resolution to lose weight this year. After having my first baby in May, 2013, and then my second in March, 2015, my body looks and feels a lot different than it used to. I am 45 pounds heavier, I am fluffier in the belly, which is also now covered with stretch marks, and I have dimples on my thighs. I’m just not comfortable in my own skin anymore, and looking at it in the mirror just makes me cringe.

Chasing after 2 small children all day every day is so exhausting, and I just feel like I never have any energy anymore. There are many reasons why I want to lose weight and get healthier, but I mostly just want to feel good about myself, have more energy, and be able to play with my kids without getting tired out quickly. I am ready to finally do this once and for all!

I am ready to make a lifestyle change, and there are a few different things that I will be doing to work towards my goals. I am going to cut out sugar and bad carbs, drink more water, and try to get at least 30 minutes of exercise every day. I also recently joined a facebook group with a group of friends and family, and we all have a common goal of getting healthier this year. We are starting a 21 day challenge tomorrow, and we will be tracking our food and water intake, and our exercise, and sharing our progress in the group every day. I think having accountability to others who are going through the same thing is a great way to help me stay on track and achieve my goals.

In addition to all of the above, I have also been looking into the Turbo1o Program from Nutrisystem, and it sounds awesome. Turbo10 is a 4-week program that includes having breakfast, lunch and dinner delivered right to my door, and would help me to lose up to 10 pounds and 5 inches in the first month. Now that’s a weight loss plan I can get on board with!

I’m a stay at home Mom to a 2.5 year old and a 10 month old, so planning healthy meals, and actually getting out to the grocery store to buy them, and then finding the time to prepare them is absolutely a challenge for me. I love that Nutrisystem makes it so easy to eat healthy every meal of the day, with very little effort on my part.

Nutrisystem also has all-new Turboshakes™ that are packed with protein plus probiotics to help support digestive health and bust belly bloat, and NutriCrush® shakes to help crush hunger.  I bet I would feel so much better if I could get my digestive system back on track and get rid of this belly bloat that I always seem to have. It really just makes me feel so “blah” all the time, and zaps my motivation to do anything.

For more information about Turbo10, and new product announcements and special offers, follow Nutrisystem on Facebook and Twitter.

Summer is my favorite time of year.  I live in Maine, so our winter months are quite dreadful.  Last year in particular was just horrible, as we got record amounts of snow.  When summer finally gets here, I soak up every second of it, because I know soon enough I’ll be stuck inside the house for months on end again.

I do love summer, but I don’t like what the heat and humidity do to my hair.  I have very thick, coarse hair, that will turn to complete frizz in a split second on hot summer days.

I’ve dealt with this frizzy hair problem all of my life, and I’ve learned some tricks along the way, to beat the summer frizz.  Below are 5 really easy things you can do to combat your summer frizz too.

5 Easy Ways to Beat Summer Frizz

1.  Blot your wet hair with a towel. When you step out of the shower, be sure to only blot your wet hair with a towel, instead of roughing it up.  This will help your cuticles to stay healthy and allow your hair to lie flat, instead of frizzing up.

2.  Use a wide-toothed comb, not a brush to comb through hair.  Using a hair brush disrupts your hair’s cuticle and causes your hair to stretch, which can lead to breakage.  Using a wide-toothed comb is much better for your hair.

3.  Don’t use a conventional hair dryer to dry your hair.  Too much hot air from conventional hair dryers will dehydrate it and cause it to frizz.  Using an ionic hair dryer instead of a conventional one cuts down on drying time. By using less heat in a shorter time period, ionic dryers reduce frizz and protect hair against split ends. Shorter drying times mean less hair damage.

4.  Choose a hairstyle that works for you.  I was complaining to my hairdresser one day about not being able to grow my hair out long like I have always dreamed about.  I have tried several times, and it always just ends up looking completely dreadful.  I just don’t have the hair type to pull it off.  My hairdresser said something in response to my complaint, that really resonated with me at the time, and that I still think about to this day.  She told me that you should find a hairstyle that works for your type of hair and embrace it.  So what if I can’t have the long, beautiful hair that I have always wanted.  I know my hair looks best in a short bob hair-style, so I will rock that look.

5.  Use a shampoo and conditioner tailored for frizzy hair.  I have been using Pantene Smooth & Sleek Shampoo and Conditioner with Argan Oil for quite some time now, and I love it!  This anti-frizz shampoo and conditioner helps tame frizzy hair for up to 72 hours, which is great, because you are really only supposed to wash your hair a few times per week to prevent your hair from drying out.  Pantene’s damage defying formula helps your hair stay strong against damage, too.   An added bonus is that it smells great!

It’s so important to use both shampoo and conditioner.  Did you know that Pantene shampoos and conditioners work together to make hair 2x stronger than shampoo alone?

Pantene Smooth & Sleek Shampoo and Conditioner

Pantene Smooth & Sleek shampoo and conditioner are available at Walmart, at an everyday low price, and they even offer a 2x money back guarantee if you don’t see the results you want.  How great is that?  If you can’t make it out to the store, no problem!  Go ahead and order it from Walmart online and have it shipped right to your door!
