It’s the beginning of a new year, and while most people start trying to eat healthier and lose weight this month, my husband and I decided to challenge ourselves and do something that only seemingly crazy people would do. We started our weight loss journey on November 12th, right before Thanksgiving and Christmas. Crazy, right?

Even with all of the holiday temptations thrown at us, it honestly hasn’t really been too difficult, but there are still some times when I find myself struggling just a little bit. I have two toddlers at home who like to snack all day long, and I often find myself mindlessly putting a piece of this or a bite of that in my mouth without even thinking about it.

I recently took the POPSUGAR Snack ID Quiz to find out what kind of snacker I am, and it’s really no surprise that my result was “Mindless Muncher”. It’s so easy for me to fall into a trap of binge-eating in front of the TV, or while working at my kitchen table. Before I know it, I’ve eaten way more than one serving, and I feel absolutely disgusted with myself.

Mindless Muncher

Over the past few months, I have learned a few tips to stop these bad habits and to exercise more control over my eating habits, so I don’t fall into those mindless munching traps anymore.

5 TIPS TO AVOID MINDLESS MUNCHING

  1. Portion out your food – Instead of sitting down with an entire bag of nuts, or whatever it is you are eating, portion out exactly one serving, so you don’t eat more than you intend to.
  2. Be aware when giving food to others – Before you even start portioning food out to your husband or kids, or anyone else, remind yourself that their food is not for you. You have your own food, and you don’t need to snack on theirs while preparing it.
  3. Always have healthy snacks available – Keeping healthy snacks with you wherever you go will help you make better snacking decisions. How many times have you been out and about somewhere and run into a table with free donuts or other tempting foods on it? Looking at trigger foods like that can make you feel hungry and give in to temptation. If you have a healthy snack available, though, you can just eat that instead and feel much better about your decision.
  4. Drink plenty of water – Drinking lots of water throughout the day is so important. It helps keep you full, and from wanting to snack all day long.
  5. Meta Appetite Control Smoothie Enhancer – You can add two teaspoons of Meta Appetite Control Smoothie Enhancer to a cold glass of water or blend it into a delicious smoothie. It’s clinically proven to help you feel less hungry between meals!*
