This post and giveaway were made possible by iConnect and Pampers. I was compensated for my participation in this campaign, but all opinions are 100% mine.Pampers Easy Ups LogoMy daughter, Kayleigh, turns 3 next month, and she has been in the process of potty training for quite a while now. I’d love for her to be completely potty trained, as I have a one year old in diapers right now, too, but I feel it’s best for her to do this at her own pace. I don’t want to force it onto her or make her feel pressured to do anything she is not comfortable doing.

Kayleigh has some good potty training days, and lots of days that aren’t really that great. As a parent going through potty training a child for the first time, I am always wondering if I am doing everything I should be doing to help her. Recently Pampers partnered with Dr. Laura Jana to give some great potty training tips, which have really helped me out. One of her tips is to watch for signs of readiness. Not every child is ready to potty train at the same age, so it’s important to watch your child for signs. Knowing this really helped me to feel better when I learned that my cousin had already completely potty trained her 9 month old, while Kayleigh, at nearly 3 years old, is still not even close yet. Children will learn at their own pace, and that is ok.

My 2 year old niece also recently became potty trained, so when Kayleigh and her got together several months ago, we let them go into the bathroom together. Kayleigh saw her cousin using the potty, and that’s when she really started putting a lot more effort into doing it herself. I think it really helps kids to feel more comfortable using the potty when they see others doing it.

Another thing that has helped us tremendously during this potty training transition, is using Pampers Easy Ups.

Pampers Easy Ups

Pampers Easy Ups have fun designs for boys (Thomas & Friends®) and girls (Dora the Explorer®). Kayleigh loves Dora, so of course, she loves wearing her too. Pampers Easy Ups are a more underwear-like design for growing toddlers. They have graphics that fade when wet to help little ones learn. Their super-stretchy sides make them easy to pull up and down when using the potty, which is good, because when they have to go, they have to go quickly! I love that they keep messes off Kayleigh’s clothing, bed, my furniture, carpets and other surfaces while she is in this training period. Pampers Easy Ups are available in sizes 2T/3T through 4T/5T.Pampers Easy UpsPampers is hosting a Twitter Party with Dr. Laura Jana on April 28th from 9-10pmEST. There are some fabulous prizes up for grabs, including:

RSVP for the party here: http://bit.ly/20whQbK.

Dr. Jana is a pediatrician, award-winning parenting book author and potty training expert who co-authored to Its You and Me Against the Pee…and the Poop, Too! Kayleigh has this book, and she absolutely loves it. We actually know all the words by heart now, since we have read it so much. Dr. Jana will be sharing her tips to help simplify and improve the potty training experience for little ones and their parents.

Tips for Migraine Sufferers

I created this post as part of a campaign by Teva Pharmaceuticals. I received an American Express gift card for participating.

migraine

I have been dealing with migraines since I was a teenager, and they can really put a damper on your day when you least expect it. I’ve had a few migraines since I last wrote about them, and I had one in particular that really freaked me out. It was an ocular migraine, one that I had not experienced before. I usually get the migraines with severe pounding in my head and nausea, where I feel like I have to lay down in a dark, quiet place immediately, but this one was really different.

All of a sudden, out of nowhere, I started to see a jagged flashing light out of my left eye. I didn’t have any pain in my head at all, but just kept seeing this light. I had to sit down and close my eyes, and it eventually passed about 15-20 minutes later. I was lucky that I was at home when this migraine struck. If I had been driving, I would have had to pull over because it was difficult for me to see normally with that light constantly flashing in my eye.migraine

TIPS FOR MIGRAINE SUFFERERS

While it’s always easier to deal with a migraine in the comfort of your own home, they can strike at any time, and any place, so it’s best to be prepared if you are a migraine sufferer. Carrying a migraine kit in your bag or car is a good idea. A migraine kit can include things like sunglasses to block out sunlight, a plastic bag if you are prone to vomiting during a migraine, ear plugs if loud noises bother you, as well as a high protein snack and a bottle of water if you are hungry or dehydrated.

Other tips for dealing with migraines include:

Keep a migraine journal to record information about your migraines – date, time, location, what type of symptoms you are experiencing, potential triggers.

Avoid triggers – once you figure out what some of your migraine triggers are, take steps to avoid them. For example, if hunger or dehydration trigger migraines for you, make a conscious effort to eat a high protein meal or snack several times a day and drink plenty of water.

Take a break – when a migraine strikes, try to find a dark, quiet location to take a break for a bit.

Did you know that nearly 36 million Americans suffer from migraine? I just find that number to be astounding. There are several known triggers of migraine, such as changes in weather, lack of sleep, bright lights and stress that migraine sufferers should be aware of.

UnitedHealthcare Children's Foundation medical grants

When your child is going through an illness or has special needs, the last thing you want to worry about is how you are going to pay for their medical expenses. Even if you have insurance, often times it won’t be enough to cover all of the expenses that might arise. Fortunately, the UnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation (UHCCF) is available to help.

The UHCCF is a charitable organization that provides medical grants to help children gain access to health-related services not covered, or not fully covered, by their parents’ commercial health insurance plan.

In Maine, UHCCF has awarded more than 7 grants since 2011 and is hoping many more local families will apply this year. This is such a great opportunity for families to get the help they need.

What do the medical grants cover?

Qualifying families can receive up to $5,000 per grant, with a lifetime maximum of $10,000 per child, to help pay for medical services and equipment, including physical, occupational and speech therapy, counseling services, surgeries, prescriptions, wheelchairs, orthotics, eyeglasses and hearing aids.

United Healthcare Children's Foundation medical grants

Grant eligibility requirements:

  • Children must be 16 years of age or younger.
  • Families must meet economic guidelines
  • Families must reside in the United States
  • Families must have a commercial health insurance plan.

United Healthcare Children's Foundation medical grantsGrants are available for medical expenses families have incurred 60 days prior to the date of application, as well as for ongoing and future medical needs. Families do not need to have insurance through UnitedHealthcare to be eligible.

Since 2007, the UHCCF has awarded over 10,000 grants valued at more than $29 million to children and their families across the United States for treatments associated with medical conditions such as cancer, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy, diabetes, hearing loss, autism, cystic fibrosis, Down syndrome, ADHD and cerebral palsy. Isn’t that amazing?!

If your family meets all of the eligibility requirements listed above, you can apply for a grant today at www.UHCCF.org.

Stylish Wedding Guest Dresses for Spring and Summer

Wedding season is upon us, and I’m so happy that I actually have one to go to this year! I just love weddings. They are a perfect excuse to get all dolled up and have some fun!

My sister’s getting married in August, so I’ve been looking for a stylish dress to wear to her wedding. She’s getting married in a church, but the reception will be outside, in my Aunt and Uncle’s back yard. Since August is one of the hottest months of the year here in Maine, I really want a dress that’s breathable, easy to chase my kids around in, and flattering, of course. I’ve been working hard to lose weight since the beginning of this year, and even though I have already lost 21 pounds, I still have a bit of a postpartum belly that I’d like to hide.

There are so many options for wedding guest dresses out there, that it can seem a bit overwhelming. I’ve narrowed down my top 10 choices, and thought I’d share them with you, in case you are also looking for stylish wedding guest dresses for spring and summer. This post contains affiliate links, and I will receive compensation if you make a purchase after clicking on my links.

Stylish Wedding Guest Dresses for Spring and Summer

I am so in love with this Illusion Yoke Embellished Poplin Dress from eShakti. Blue is my favorite color, and I just adore the floral embellishments at the bottom of the dress. It looks so comfortable and flattering, and it also has pockets, which is awesome! And just look at the back of the dress – how gorgeous is that?! This dress can be customized to your liking, with 5 additional sleeve types and 6 additional length options. This one is definitely a front runner for me.

My next dress pick is also from eShakti. This Chelsea Dress looks so comfortable, and is perfect for a spring or summer wedding. I love the ruched bodice, elastic smocked center back waist, and the band at the waist in the front. This dress would definitely be slimming around the tummy. Once again, this dress also has side seam pockets, and it can be customized to your liking with 2 additional necklines, 3 sleeve types, and 6 length options. If you’re not keen on the color pink, there are also several more dresses in this style, but in different colors and patterns!

The next dress on my list is from Macy’s. This SL Fashions Sleeveless Ruched Lace A-Line Dress is a bit more fun and flirtatious. It has a ruched bodice and a gorgeous lace overlay at the skirt, making it look very sophisticated and feminine. I read the reviews for this dress, and most of them said that this dress was very slimming around the waist, which is exactly what I am looking for!

This Fit and Flare Dress from Lands’ End is next on my list. I really like the simplicity of it and the flattering fit and flare silhouette. This dress will go far beyond just one wedding, and can be worn again for many occasions. It also comes in 5 different colors – coral ruby, black, celestial blue, ink blue, and perfect purple.

Fit and Flare Dress

I really love this Robbie Bee® Sleeveless Dot Print Fit-and-Flare Dress from JC Penney, too. The colors are very fun and different, and I love the ribbon around the waist and the ruffles on the skirt.

I’m not usually one for busy patterns on a dress, but I actually really adore this Tiana B. Sleeveless Floral Fit-and-Flare Dress, which is also from JC Penney. It’s very feminine, a pretty pattern for the spring and summer months, and I really love added detail of the button keyhole back. It’s definitely going to be hot in August, so I think this dress would keep me plenty cool, and it would also look great paired with a sweater if it does start to cool off later in the evening.

Tiana B. Sleeveless Floral Fit-and-Flare Dress

Here’s another floral patterned dress that I really do like. The blue color is my absolute favorite, and I just think it’s so pretty. You can find this Floral Mesh Dress at Dressbarn.

Here’s another dress from Dressbarn that I absolutely adore! This Lace Belted Fit-and-Flare Dress in pistachio has a gorgeous lace pattern overlay and a removable belt.

If you’re looking for a longer dress option, this Scarf Print Jersey & Crêpe de Chine Maxi Dress from Nordstrom is really beautiful. I just love that detailed skirt. It’s so bright and cheerful. One reviewer who wore it to a wedding said she received compliments on it all night long. I can definitely see why!

Here’s another long dress option from Macy’s that I really love. This Adrianna By Adrianna Papell Chiffon Draped Sleeveless Gown looks really comfortable, and it’s detailed with a beautiful V-neck front and cross-back design at back. I also love that it comes in 7 different colors – almond, coral, black, blush, graphite, midnight blue and royal.

I do most of my grocery shopping on Sundays, as I find it helps me to plan my family’s meals for the rest of the week. While doing my grocery shopping, I also stock up on household items and of course, diapers and wipes. With a 1 year old, and an almost 3 year old, I have to stock up on both of those things almost every single week. We sure do go through a lot of them!

My daughter, Kayleigh, has recently started potty training, so we have switched her over to using Pampers Easy Ups Training Pants most of the time. She really likes wearing them, and being able to take them off and put them on by herself when she uses the potty. She is in that independent stage where she wants to do everything by herself, so they are perfect for her.

I love that Pampers Easy Ups hold 25% more than the other leading training pant and help my daughter stay dry and happy. They have fewer leaks than the other leading training pant, provide up to 12 hours of leakage protection and are sold in sizes 2T-5T.

SAVE ON PAMPERS EASY UPS WITH THIS PRINTABLE COUPON!

This is a sponsored post for SheSpeaks/Walmart. All opinions are my own.

Spring has sprung, and I’ve been on a huge cleaning kick this month! It feels so good to get rid of all of the stuff that’s just been collecting dust and taking up space in my house. My house is only 963 square feet, so it’s not really all that big, and we don’t have a lot of storage room. I was starting to feel so overwhelmed by everything that we have collected over the past few years, that just ended up being stuffed into a closet, or tossed on my bedroom floor, or stored in the garage or basement. After getting rid of several bags and boxes full of clothes and toys, taking the bottles to the redemption center and recycling all of our card board, our house just feels so much more comfortable!

Now that I’ve cleared out a bunch of space in my house, I thought it was a good time to stock up on some of the household items I use the most. During the month of April, Walmart is having an awesome Stock Up & Save Event, so the timing was really perfect. I do most of my grocery shopping at Walmart anyway, as I love their Savings Catcher program, so I added a few extra items to my cart this week.

Stock Up and Save

I always like to keep a good amount of tissue paper and paper towels on hand, so I grabbed a Charmin Ultra Strong 36 Double-Roll Pack and a Bounty Select-A-Size 12-Pack Mega Roll.

Now I’m stocked up for quite a while! I also grabbed a huge bottle of Dawn original dish detergent. It’s my absolute favorite detergent, and now I won’t run out for a long time.

I also picked up a double pack of Febreze Air Effects to keep my house smelling nice and fresh this spring.

This is a sponsored post for SheSpeaks/Folgers.

My life as a stay at home Mom to two kids under three is pretty crazy and stressful. It always feels like there is never enough time in the day to get everything done. The dishes and laundry pile faster than I can take care of them, the kids are always throwing their food and toys all over the house and getting into things they’re not supposed to, and I feel like I’m constantly being pulled in a million different directions trying to keep on top of everything.

In the midst of my crazy days, I always try to take a moment or two for myself to recharge. It’s the only way I stay sane, really. The thing I look forward to most during the day, is sipping on a cup of delicious hot coffee. That first sip instantly transports me to my happy place, and helps me to unwind.

I actually didn’t start drinking coffee until I was 29 years old, and honestly, I’m pretty picky about the coffee I drink. It has to be really good. I thoroughly enjoy Folgers Gourmet Selections, which come in a variety of different flavors, so I can always drink whatever I’m feeling in the mood for. It’s so nice to be able to treat myself to a cup of gourmet coffee right at home!

Folgers Gourmet Selections

I start my morning off with a cup of Lively Colombian coffee and I drink it from my orange cup. This cup is so bright and cheery, that it always helps me to wake up on those mornings when I just don’t want to get out of bed.

Folgers Gourmet Selections

Later on in the day when the kids go down for a nap, I drink Vanilla Biscotti in my “coffee” cup. It really helps me to relax.

Folgers Gourmet Selections

Whenever I have a blog post to write, or other work to do, and I find myself struggling to concentrate, I drink Toasted Hazelnut from my brown cup. This cup makes me feel more like I am at “the office” and helps me to get into a serious working mode.

Folgers Gourmet Selections

I love that there are so many varieties of coffee available to choose from. There really is a flavor to fit all of my moods.

Folgers Gourmet Selections include:

  • Folgers Gourmet Selections® Toasted Hazelnut Bagged Coffee
  • Folgers Gourmet Selections® Peanut Butter Cookie Flavored Bagged Coffee
