This weekend, I will celebrate my very first Mother’s Day.  Kayleigh was born 3 days after Mother’s Day last year, so I missed it by just a bit.  Her first birthday is coming up next week, and I’ve been pretty emotional lately, while reflecting back upon her first year of life.  Where has the time gone?!

I always knew I wanted to be a Mother.  As a young child, I delicately cared for my baby dolls, pretending I was their Mommy.  As a teenager, I was drawn to babies and children.  I imagined what my own children would look like and what their personalities would be.  I dreamed about taking them to fun places and being the best Mom I could be.  The day I found out I was pregnant, which also happened to be my 31st birthday, was one of the happiest days of my life.

After Kayleigh was born, I finally knew what it felt like to be a Mother, and it was everything I dreamed of.  Sure, there are plenty of days when all I want in the world is 5 minutes to myself, but being a Mother is the best thing that has ever happened to me.  Not a day goes by that I don’t look into my daughter’s beautiful eyes, and thank God that she is in my life.  She makes it all worth while.

Over the last year, I have written several love letters to Kayleigh.  I hope one day she will read them all and feel just how much I love her.  Have you ever written a love letter to your child?  If not, you should try it some time!

I thought I’d share my most recent letter to Kayleigh with you for some inspiration!

My Dear, Sweet Kayleigh,

I cannot believe that in only 9 days, you will be a year old.  It seems like only yesterday, I was holding a tiny version of you in my arms after a long 24 hours of labor.  The day you were born was the happiest day of my life. The moment I saw your precious face, all the pain disappeared and was forgotten.  My heart swelled with more love than I have ever felt before.  You are the reason I am a Mother, and  I can never thank you enough for that.

Over the last 12 months, I have watched you learn and grow, and blossom into such a beautiful and happy girl. You are crawling all over the place, and pulling yourself up to stand.  You are learning to say new words all the time, and love to explore the world around you.  I am so proud of all of your accomplishments, and I can’t wait to see what the next year will bring.

This last year has flown by much too quickly.  Pretty soon you will be walking, and talking up a storm. You’ll be carrying on conversations before we know it!  I have been so very blessed to be able to spend every single day with you.  You make me smile and laugh each and every day.  You have the brightest smile, the cutest little giggle and the warmest heart. People are drawn to you everywhere we go.  You just have this special way about you that people always seem to notice.

Thank you so much for coming into my life, and fulfilling my dream of becoming a Mother.  It is by far, the best, and most rewarding job in the whole world.  I love you with all my heart.

Love Always,
