I participated in a campaign for Mom Central Consulting (#MC) on behalf of Kohl’s. I received a gift card as a thank you for participating.
Whenever I’m in need of new clothes, I head over to my local Kohl’s to check out the latest fashion trends. They always have a great selection to choose from, and awesome deals, too! Don’t you just love watching that Kohl’s cash pile up??
This spring, Kohl’s is teaming up with renowned American Fashion designer (and self-confessed beach bum) Peter Som! The exclusive Peter Som for DesigNation collection, is inspired by beautiful St. Barths, and features bold patterns and bright colored skirts, dresses and separates, that are feminine and flattering.
This collection looks great for lounging around the beach, or even at home this spring and summer. I’m really excited to check it out in person at my Kohl’s store! These outfits look so effortless, and best of all – comfortable! I especially love that pretty blue and white dress. Which outfit is your favorite?
Want to be one of the first to shop Peter Som’s collection? Mark your calendars for Friday April 4th at 12:00 PM ET, and join Kohl’s for their Peter Som Watch & Shop Google Hangout. When I was a little girl, I was OBSESSED with the Muppets and Muppet Babies. I loved watching all of the movies and television shows, and I had all kinds of Muppets memorabilia, including dolls, puzzles and more.
My favorite Muppet was Miss Piggy. She was so beautiful and glamorous, and I was in awe of her. My Dad worked at a paper mill, and would bring home stacks of paper for me to draw on. I recall sitting down in front of those stacks of paper with a pink crayon in hand, and drawing a single heart on each piece of paper. I would pretend that I was Miss Piggy and that single heart was my autograph. I had so much fun!
As an adult, I still love the Muppets, and I am really excited to see the newest movie, Muppets Most Wanted. I am also very excited to introduce Kayleigh to the Muppets. It’s such a wonderful feeling, being able to share things with her that I loved as a child. I know she will love the Muppets just as much as I do!
Muppets Most Wanted just hit theaters on March 21st. Are you and your family planning to go see it? In this movie, The Muppets find themselves unwittingly entangled in an international crime caper headed by Constantine, the World’s Number One Criminal and a dead ringer for Kermit, and his dastardly sidekick Dominic. I am so excited that this movie also stars the very lovely and talented Tina Fey! I just love her!
Lipton is giving you an opportunity to win FREE TICKETS to see Muppets Most Wanted in select theaters! How awesome is that?!
Lipton will be giving away 10 pairs of tickets daily through April 30, 2014. All you have to do to enter, is watch this video, then you will be able to download a coupon for Lipton tea products, available at Target, and enter to win a pair of tickets! You can see the official rules for the sweepstakes here.
Do you and your family plan on seeing Muppets Most Wanted?Which Muppet is your favorite?
I had the opportunity to watch my sweet niece, Morgan, last week, while my sister ran some errands. Morgan is 2.5 months younger than my daughter, Kayleigh, who is 10 months old.
We have gotten the kids together a handful of times before, but they were both really too young to have much interaction with each other. They are finally getting to the age now where we can sit them down and let them play together.
I stay home with Kayleigh, so she has not had a lot of exposure to other babies or children, and I’m getting a little worried about that. When I sat her down next to Morgan, all she wanted to do was pull her hair, poke her in the eye, squeeze her hand really hard or steal her toys. I felt like the world’s worst Mom. There was my 10 month old daughter, already bullying her younger cousin. Where did she learn this behavior??
I asked her to stop, and pushed her hand away from Morgan several times, but she kept doing it.
Every time I tried to take a picture of them together, she would do something to bother her.
Not only was she bullying her, but she showed signs of jealousy, when I spent alone time with Morgan (feeding her, changing her diaper, etc.).
Is she doing this to be mean? Is she doing this because seeing another baby is new to her, and she is just curious? I don’t know, but I have vowed to get these kids together more often, so that Kayleigh will learn how to interact with other children, learn how to share toys, and play well together. Hopefully some day they will become the best of friends.
Has your child ever bullied another child? How did you deal with it?
I participated in a Blogger Activation on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Modere I received a promotional item to facilitate my review and to thank me for my participation.
Over the last few years, I have been trying to incorporate more eco-friendly and non-toxic products into my lifestyle. Having a baby really makes you think harder about your purchases. I don’t want to expose her little body to unnecessary chemicals, and now’s a great time to stop exposing my own body to them as well. I also want to set a good example for her in buying products that do not hurt our environment.
I was recently introduced to Modere, and love everything they have to offer. Their newly launched website seeks to deliver innovative products across essential lifestyle categories including Personal Care, Health & Wellness, and Household Care, just in time for spring cleaning!
As I browsed their website, I saw many great products that I would love to try, including laundry detergent powder, laundry pods, dishwasher pods, multi-purpose cleaning wipes, skin cleanser, shampoo and conditioner, toothpaste, mouth rinse, vitamins and more. After browsing their site for a while, I decided to purchase a bottle of Liquid Hand Soap, a 3-Pack of Body Bars, and a Repairing Hair Mask.
I was very impressed with Modere’s stylishly packaged products. They are very simple, and elegant looking. They really know how to combine style, sophistication and functionality! They even sent me a free sample of theirSatiety Chews, which help to satisfy hunger between meals and help you feel fuller longer. I am trying to eat better this week, so these will be helpful in keeping my appetite under control while my body adjusts to less junk food.
I chose to try their Liquid Hand Soap because I am a hand washing fanatic. I wash my hands constantly throughout the day. I’m busy taking care of Kayleigh, and we all know how messy a 10 month old can be, between diaper changes, and spilling food all over the place.
John has been doing a great deal of the grocery shopping lately, as it’s difficult for me to get out to the grocery store, and he ends up bringing home scented hand soap pretty much all of the time. I have told him over and over again that I would rather have unscented, but we all know how well men listen, right? Now, I can shop for UNSCENTED hand soap from home. This hand soap also contains no dyes, parabens, sulfates, phthalates, SLS, or SLES.
I have always had very dry, sensitive skin, so I have to use soaps that will not dry my skin out even more, and I also prefer soaps that do not have a strong scent to them. Modere’s organic-based body bars are very gentle on my skin. It’s also non-toxic, hypoallergenic, chemical-free, and dye-free, biodegradable, pH balanced and dermatologist tested and approved! What more could you ask for in a bar of soap??
Finally, I chose to purchase the Repairing Hair Mask, because after this brutal Maine winter, my hair is extremely dry and damaged. The Repairing Hair Mask is supposed to strengthen and protect extremely dry or damaged hair, provide intense hydration, promote healthy shine, and also protect hair from environmental factors (and even from hair straighteners!).
I wish I had known about this product before winter started. After using it only one time, I noticed a huge difference in the texture of my hair. It felt much, much smoother, and was a lot easier to style. I will say though, it does have a bit of a perm smell to it, though it does not have any of the harsh chemicals in it that a perm solution does.
Overall, I was really impressed with all of these products. I feel much better knowing that I am using products that are organic-based, and eco-friendly. I can’t wait to spring clean my home with some of their other products!
Disclosure: I received a free sample and a stipend as part of a promotional program with Beech-Nut and MomSelect. All opinions are 100% my own. While I was pregnant with Kayleigh, I had visions of making baby food at home for her. I wanted to make sure that I knew exactly what was going into her little body. I wanted her to eat fresh foods, and I wanted them to be 100% natural and healthy.
When Kayleigh first started eating solid foods, at around 5 months old, I did make her baby food at home. I steamed and blended up fresh fruits and vegetables for her, which included carrots, peas, green beans, parsnips, apples, and peaches. It went pretty well for a couple of months, and then the brand new Magic Bullet that I had bought died. I was also having a hard time finding the time and energy to make and freeze the food when that point came. I took it as a sign that I should just start buying her organic jarred baby food from the grocery store, and that is what I have been doing ever since.
Beech-Nut recently came out with a new 100% natural baby food, and I was very excited to try it out. When the package arrived from Beech-Nut, I was incredibly impressed. I have never seen a more beautiful presentation in any of the review products I have received. They packaged four of their new 100% natural baby foods in a gorgeous wooden box, with their logo engraved into it.
The top of the box slid out, revealing a card addressed to me inside. I really loved that personal touch.
Inside the box were the four flavors of 100% natural baby food – just spinach, zucchini and peas, just honeycrisp apples, just carrots, and beets, pear & pomegranate.
Immediately upon looking at these jars of food, I could tell they were extremely high quality. The colors of the food were so vibrant, and the food just looked so fresh. It didn’t look like any other jarred baby food I had ever seen before. It looked like something I would have made at home myself.
I am one of those Moms that always tastes a new kind of baby food before feeding it to my baby. I want to know exactly what it tastes like, so I know what’s going on in her mind when she eats it. I have to say, there are a lot of baby foods out that taste gross. They just have this really weird taste to them, and certainly do not taste fresh.
Beech-Nut’s 100% Natural Baby Food tastes AMAZING. They are so crisp, and fresh and full of flavor. Kayleigh (and I) loved them! The difference in the taste and texture of this food from other brands incredible. You can see the difference as soon as you open the jar.
Beech-Nut’s new all natural baby food contains no additives, no preservatives and nothing artificial. They use an innovative technology to create baby food that is unlike anything else on store shelves. Their just gentle cooking™ method ensures the freshness of their fruits and vegetables, without adding water, so their food is never over-processed. Beech-Nut uses only the freshest fruits and vegetables that look, smell and taste exactly like what they are, so moms know exactly what their babies are eating.
Beech-Nut has 40 delicious new flavors with foods like pomegranate, avocado, papaya and beets. They select only the highest quality varieties of fruits and vegetables, like Honeycrisp apples, Bartlett pears and Haas avocados. Here are a just a few of the great flavors available:
just honeycrisp apple
just sugarsnap peas
just mango, kiwi & papaya
just mango, apple & avocado
beets, pear & pomegranate
just pear, raspberry & asparagus
just apple & aronia berry
spinach, zucchini & quinoa
The new Beech-Nut line will be available in stores, including Wal-Mart, Kroger, Meijer and Publix, in spring 2014.
Will you make the switch to Beech-Nut’s 100% Natural Baby Food?
I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting (#MC) for Mom Corps YOU. I received a free trial to facilitate my review and a promotional item as a thank you for participating. This post contains affiliate links, and I will receive compensation if you make a purchase after clicking on my links.
Last month, I introduced you to Mom Corps YOU, an online community to help professionals better integrate their professional and personal lives. In case you missed it, you can read that post here.
I love Mom Corps YOU so much, that I recently partnered with them to share even more of their great innovations and resources with you! This month, I had the pleasure of listening to three of the webinars offered by Mom Corps YOU. They were all very informative and interesting to listen to. I became a stay-at-home Mom last year, after working as a Paralegal for more than 10 years. I’ve already begun to feel “out of touch” with the corporate world, and Mom Corps YOU has helped me to find my way back and stay up to date with the outside world.
Become a Savvy Saver
On Tuesday, March 11th, Jean Chatzky hosted the ‘Become a Savvy Saver’ webinar sharing crucial tools for saving success. Jean is the financial editor for NBC’s Today Show, an award winning personal finance journalist, AARP’s personal finance ambassador, and the host of Money Matters with Jean Chatzky, so she really knows her stuff! These are the type of high quality professional speakers Mom Corp YOU offers to their community.
I actually missed this webinar when it was live because I had a doctor appointment, but the great thing about Mom Corps YOU, is that they keep webinar recordings on their website for 30 days, so you can watch it on your own schedule. As a stay-at-home Mom, I’m always looking for more ways to save money, so I watched this webinar a few days later.
Jean gave some AMAZING tips for saving money for the future, for vacations, for education, etc. These are all things that I can easily do, like automating transfers to savings and retirement accounts. When we don’t have to think about transferring the money into savings and retirement accounts on our own, the temptation to spend it first isn’t there. Great advice!
Another great tip was to save for a very specific retirement dream. Instead of having a “retirement fund”, have a “retirement on the beach in Hawaii fund” or whatever your dream retirement may be. That way, it’s not so generic, and you can actually picture that retirement in your mind every time you go to spend money that could be saved towards your retirement instead.
Jean also gave a whole bunch of great tips for saving money on groceries. I found these tips extremely helpful, because John and I always spend way too much money at the grocery store. Some of her tips include going grocery shopping by yourself, using coupons, planning your meals for the entire week, only going to the grocery store once per week, instead of several times throughout the week, and shopping around for the lowest price instead of being brand loyal.
She also gave 5 great questions to ask yourself while you are standing in line at checkout during an “impulse buy”. I think we are all guilty of those at one time or another. Next time you find yourself in that situation, ask yourself these questions:
1. Do I Need This?
2. What Happens To My Budget If I Buy This?
3. What Happens To My Budget If I Don’t Buy This?
4. How Long Will It Take Me To Pay For This? How Much Will It Cost Me To Pay For This (Interest on Credit Cards, Etc.)?
5. Will I Actually Want This After I Have Time To Think It Over?
She said that the best money saving tool is a good night’s sleep. Before going out and buying something on impulse, sleep on it. You might just wake up the next day, and realize that you actually don’t NEED that item you so desperately wanted the day before. Often times we shop simply because it makes us feel better (temporarily), and then we end up regretting it later.
I can’t wait to put all of Jean’s great tips to use in my household, and get my budget under control! We are getting VERY close to owning our own home (currently going through the loan process, which is almost done), and we need to save as much money as we can.
In addition to Chatzky’s webinar, Mom Corps YOU offers exclusive advice from Chatzky on how to cut fixed expenses, hire a financial adviser, and choose a credit card. I especially love the tips on how to cut fixed expenses. We often think that because it is a fixed expense, that there is no way to lower it, but there are ways, such as bundling cell phone, cable and internet plans into a lower priced package.
Being Prepared for Life’s Unexpected Challenges
On March 13th, Lee Woodruff hosted the ‘In An Instant – Being Prepared for Life’s Unexpected Challenges’ webinar on Mom Corps YOU. I was lucky enough to be able to attend this webinar while it was live. It was very inspiring listening to Lee tell the story of her husband being injured by a roadside bomb in Iraq, and how she dealt with the aftermath of that. She gave tips on how to be prepared for unexpected challenges, how to make a Plan B, and how priorities can sometimes get rearranged. I am very set in my ways, so I have a hard time deviating from a plan that has been put in place. I think we all need to learn to let go and just go with it sometimes though.
Social Media Strategies for Your Next Career
On March 18th, Mom Corps YOU hosted a ‘Social Media Strategies for Your Next Career’ webinar to help Moms learn why social media is a must-have tool for today’s job search and how to create an effective job search strategy for social media. Because I am a blogger, social media is a HUGE tool for me, so I would definitely love to learn more about how to use it to search for jobs. I missed this webinar, but it will be live for a few more weeks, and I will watch it at a time that is convenient for me.
Next month’s line up of events and webinars looks awesome as well. I am most interested in “The True Secret to Time Management for Working Moms”. I have been having a lot of difficulty with time management lately. There never seems to be enough hours in the day to do everything I want. I find myself staying up until 2:00am some days just to get a blog post done. There’s got to be an easier way!

When I was a teenager, I didn’t really have too much of an issue with breakouts and blemishes, but every once in a while I would get a doozy of a pimple on my nose or my chin that would make me want to stay home from school and hide in my bedroom until it went away. I always dreamed of the day when I would be an adult, and would no longer have problems with breakouts and blemishes at all. Adults don’t ever get pimples, right?!
Fast forward to age 32, when my skin is breaking out even more than it did when I was a teenager. Ugh. I think the biggest contributor to my breakouts and blemishes, is not properly washing my face and body. Between taking care of Kayleigh, working on my blog, cleaning my apartment, and trying to maintain a healthy relationship with John, I barely have time to take a shower, let alone properly clean my face and body. It doesn’t take long for my skin to get oily and break out.
I recently received a Water-Resistant Professional Skin Care Face and Body Brush System from ToiletTree Products, and I jumped at the chance to use it. It looked super easy to use, and I thought it would help me to get into a routine of properly washing my face and body.
Overall, I really like this professional skin care system from ToiletTree. I actually look forward to washing my face every night before bed now, and make sure to set aside a couple of minutes to do so. I have noticed an improvement in how clean and soft my skin feels after using it. I also love that pumice stone! It’s almost time to dig out the flip-flops (yes, I’m wishing winter away!!!), so it’s time to get my feet flip-flop ready!
ToiletTree Professional Skin Care Face and Body Brush System
It includes 4 different interchangeable heads – a large body brush, medium and soft face brushes and a pumice stone, and they are very easy to change out.
The 3-IN-1 Skin system is super affordable, at only $39.95.
The replacement heads are also very reasonably priced.
It comes with the required batteries, so you don’t have to buy them separately.
It is comfortable to hold in your hand.
It has a wrist strap to prevent you from dropping it.
It leaves your skin feeling very clean. After using the system on my face for the first time, I instantly felt a huge difference. It had exfoliated my skin, leaving it feeling very soft and smooth.
The pumice stone works great to remove dead skin from feet.
It is waterproof, so it can be used in the shower.
It comes in a variety of colors – purple, black, blue, grey, pink and green.
It only has one speed setting, which is a bit faster than I would like. I wish there was at least one slower speed setting.
I wish the pumice stone was a bit bigger. I found it slipping off my foot a bit because it is on the small side.
It does not come with any sort of storage pouch, so it is awkward to store.
Where to buy:You can purchase this Professional Skin Care System on Amazon.com, Brookstone.com and Frontgate.com. This skin care system is a great gift idea! You will be giving the gift of healthy, beautiful skin! Your friends and family will be delighted to pamper themselves with this total body, skin-cleansing system. They will be more confident about their appearance and enjoy a luxurious experience at home every single day. Mother’s Day is just around the corner!
Would you love to receive a professional skin care system like this as a gift?
Disclosure: I received an assortment of Easter candy from HERSHEY’S and a stipend from the Global Influence Network for participating in this campaign. Thoughts and opinions here are my own.
Easter is one of my favorite holidays. To me, it signifies the beginning of spring, which is something I long for here in the cold, snowy state of Maine.
After waking up to a colorful basket full of delicious Easter candy, Easter Sundays as a child were spent dressing up in beautiful, pastel dresses and going to church with my family. After church, we would all gather together and feast on a large meal of ham, mashed potatoes and veggies.
I love decorating for Easter. Easter bunnies, chicks, eggs, spring flowers ~ I love them all! This year, I decided to add a cute little touch of Easter to my family’s Easter table, with these adorable Easter Bunny Napkins. Aren’t they cute??
Not only can these be used to dress up your Easter table, but they can also be used to add a cute little decor to your candy dishes and more!
A thicker napkin results in a bigger bunny.
These Easter Bunny Napkins are really quite simple to make. Read the step-by-step guide below for directions.
STEP 1. Start with a square, cloth napkin. Iron the napkin so that there are no creases.
STEP 2. Starting from the bottom of the napkin, fold up the bottom third of the napkin to the center.
STEP 3. Starting from the top of the napkin, fold the top third of the napkin down to meet the bottom crease.
STEP 4. Fold the right side up as shown below.
STEP 5. Fold the left side up as shown below. Your napkin should now have a point at the bottom.
STEP 6. Fold the right side down as shown below.
STEP 7. Fold the left side down as shown below. Your napkin should now have a point in the top as well.
STEP 8. Fold the right side down from the folded piece in the middle, as shown below.
STEP 9. Fold the left side down from the folded piece in the middle as shown below.
STEP 10. Fold the napkin in half as shown below.
STEP 11. Carefully flip the napkin over, while holding it together with your fingers and tie a string or ribbon around it to create a head with ears and a body.
And, of course, no Easter would be complete without HERSHEY’S candy! I think out of all of the holidays, Easter has the best candy. I can’t get enough of those Cadbury Mini Eggs! What’s your favorite Easter candy??

Disclosure: I received free samples and a promotional item in exchange for my honest review and opinion.
I’ve mentioned several times before that John doesn’t like fish. He blames his mother, saying that when he was a child, she cooked fish for him and forced him to eat it all of it, even though he didn’t want to. She denies the whole thing.
I really wish that John did enjoy fish as much as I do. When your partner doesn’t like to eat something that you really enjoy, it can often times be quite difficult. I NEED to have my fish fix at least once per week. I could actually eat fish every night, I love it so much, but I’m content with eating it at least once per week. I don’t want to go through too much of a hassle cooking two separate meals, however.
Gorton’s makes it super easy for me to get my fish fix, while John eats something else that he enjoys – like steak or chicken. I don’t have to dirty up a whole bunch of pots and pans, because Gorton’s products are already perfectly breaded and/or seasoned. All I have to do is pop them in the oven and enjoy!
Gorton’s Artisan Fillets
Gorton’s recently came out with a brand new line of products – Artisan Fillets, and they are DELICIOUS! I think these are one of their best products yet. They come in four awesome flavors – Roasted Garlic & Italian Herb, Lemon & Cracked Peppercorn, Southwest Tortilla and Southern Style.
So far, I have tried the Roasted Garlic & Italian Herb and the Lemon & Cracked Peppercorn varieties. I’m in love with them. They are perfectly breaded and seasoned, super tender and so easy to prepare. I enjoyed them over a salad, but they would be great with a side of rice/potatoes and veggies too, or with something as easy as French fries if you’re really pressed for time, or just don’t feel like cooking an elaborate meal.
490 Daily Prize Winners: each daily winner receives one (1) VIP product coupon
Fourteen (14) First Prize Winners: each First Prize Winner receives one (1) $100 Visa® Gift Card and one (1) Gorton’s branded cutting board
One (1) Grand Prize Winner: $2,500.00 cash prize.
Here’s a chance for you to win two (2) full-value product coupons and a Gorton’s cutting board! This giveaway is open to US residents only, and will end at 11:59pm on April 2, 2014. Winner must contact me with their mailing address within 48 hours, or their prize will be forfeited. Good luck!
I am in dire need of a wardrobe overhaul. My closet is full of clothing I wore before I got pregnant with Kayleigh. Sadly, I have not lost the pregnancy weight yet, and have actually gained some weight since having Kayleigh. so, none of those clothes fit me. I never did buy any new clothing to fit my new body after Kayleigh was born. For several months now, I have been hiding my overweight body in yoga pants, sweatshirts and large sweaters.
Spring is just around the corner, and I don’t have a spring or summer wardrobe. I actually have NO IDEA what I am going to where once the weather gets warmer. I certainly won’t be able to live in my sweats anymore.
It’s time for a wardrobe overhaul!
I’ve been searching online for some new clothes to update my wardrobe, and I found a whole bunch of gorgeous plus size dresses and other flattering pieces! I’m actually really excited to put together a new look for spring and summer, one that is stylish and comfortable at the same time. This post contains affiliate links, and I will receive compensation if you make a purchase after clicking on my links.
I absolutely love this Crinkled High Low Skirt from Lane Bryant. The color is soft and feminine. I love the crinkled detailing at the waist, and the flow of the skirt. It looks super comfortable and slimming. The best thing about this skirt is that it is machine washable! This skirt also comes in Santa Fe Brown.
I’m also really loving this Boucle Surplice Dress from Lane Bryant. I love the wide shoulder straps, the V-neckline, the cute belt around the waist, the color… I love everything about this dress! It is so flattering!
No summer wardrobe would be complete without a swimsuit. This Slender Separates Paisley Crossover Tankini Top is gorgeous, and very flattering for someone with a large chest like me. I like that I don’t have to worry about spilling out of it. It also comes in black.
Will you be updating your spring/summer wardrobe this year?
