Before I had a baby of my own, I didn’t have a clue about feeding bottles. I thought they were all the same, that all bottles were created equal, but I have come to realize over the last 8 months, that they are not.
I received a few sets of bottles for Kayleigh at my baby shower, and I planned to breastfeed for a while, so I didn’t really look into the available bottle options myself.
It wasn’t until Kayleigh turned 3 months old, that I really started looking at bottles, and testing out different ones. There were some bottles that she hated. She would completely refuse to eat from them. There were others that didn’t seem to keep up with her evolving feeding style. The flow would be too slow for her.
This month, Chicco introduced their NaturalFit Advanced Feeding & Soothing System, which is designed to grow with your baby through their early stages of development.
The first bottle in this feeding system is for babies 0-4 months old, when a baby’s feeding style is squeezing. It holds 5 oz., and has a breast-like, soft and flexible nipple, which is great if you go back and forth between breast and bottle. This really helps to avoid nipple confusion. I think that was the problem Kayleigh had with some of the bottles we had that she refused to eat from.
This bottle also has an angled nipple, which I love. That really helps Mom out, because it can really hurt your wrist trying to hold the bottle at just the right angle for your baby. This bottle does all the work for you.
There are also twin anti-colic valves to help prevent colic.
The second bottle in this feeding system holds 8 oz., and again has a breast-like, soft and flexible nipple, angled nipple, and twin anti-colic valves. This bottle has a medium flow to keep up with baby’s growing appetite. This bottle is designed for babies 2+ months.
The third bottle in this system is for babies 4+ months. It also holds 8 oz., and now has a straight nipple with a rounded base to adapt to baby’s feeding position. At this age, babies become a lot less “floppy” and can hold their head up pretty well, so they don’t really need that angled nipple anymore. This bottle also has the twin anti-colic valves, and an adjustable flow, so baby can eat slow, medium or fast.
The third bottle in this system is for babies 6+ months, and holds 11 oz. to keep up with baby’s growing appetite. The nipple has been elongated to support an older baby’s sucking motion, and the base is less rounded for tighter lip support. Again, this bottle has twin anti-colic valves. It also has a fast flow, which is really great. When Kayleigh gets hungry now, she wants her food, and she wants it delivered to her fast. She will go right to town on this bottle, and seems very satisfied with it.
Chicco also has NaturalFit Orthodontic Pacifiers, designed for babies 4+ months. They are BPA and latex free, which is something I always look for in a pacifier. They also have a soft flex tip, which adapts to the unique shape of baby’s mouth.
The ergonomic shield lays gently against the skin and there are are ventilation holes for air circulation and to help prevent the gathering of saliva. The tiny ridges, grooves and angled shape allow for the natural positioning and movement of the tongue, and they have a narrow base for extra flexibility and optimal closure of the mouth.
Kayleigh has been using a pacifier since day 1, and these are by far the best ones we have ever had. They seem to be very comfortable in her mouth. She gave me a big smile right after I gave it to her for the first time. I’ll take that as her seal of approval!
