Disclosue: I received a free amber teething necklace for review. All opinions expressed are 100% my own.
For months now, the ladies in my pregnancy/new Moms group on Facebook have been raving about amber teething necklaces, and their healing effects on teething babies.
Before Kayleigh was even born, I planned on getting one of these necklaces for her, as I like to stay away from medications whenever possible, and opt for more natural remedies. I just never thought that she would start teething at only 2 months old! Since I was not expecting her to start teething so early, I was completely unprepared, and without an amber teething necklace.
Luckily for me, Julie over at Spark of Amber, hooked me up with a Firefly amber teething necklace. I was so excited to receive it in the mail on a day when Kayleigh was particular cranky due to teething. I rushed inside, immediately put it around her neck, and hoped for the best.
The necklace did not seem to make much of a difference the first couple of days that she was wearing it. After that, however, she did seem to settle down a bit, and it appeared that her gums/teeth were not bothering her quite as much as previously.
It’s hard for me to tell for sure, but it appears that Kayleigh has at least 8 teeth coming in right now, and she’s not even 4 months old! Poor baby girl. She still has very cranky moments off and on, even while wearing the necklace. I think this is mostly due to the fact that she has so many teeth coming in right now.
I have also heard that the lighter the color of necklace the baby wears, the more noticeable its effects are. I’m not sure if there is any truth to this statement, but the Firefly necklace is a dark brown color, so it does make me wonder if that has something to do with it.
Here is a closer look at the Firefly necklace. The beads are round, but not uniform, due to the natural variations in Baltic Amber. Each bead has been polished and individually knotted. I love this feature of the necklace, because wearing a beaded necklace on an infant would otherwise be quite scary. This way, if the necklace breaks for some reason, all the beads won’t come flying off. The necklace also has a screw closure, which makes it super easy to put on a fidgety baby.
Baltic Amber teething jewelry is generally recommended for ages 3 and up, but this is just a standard disclaimer due to the small parts. Spark of Amber recommends proper supervision for added safety when necklaces and bracelets are worn by infants. Kayleigh only wears her necklace during the day, when I can closely watch her. We take it off at night to be safe. The necklace does not seem to bother her at all. I have never seen her grab at it or anything.
If you have any reservations about your child wearing a necklace, Spark of Amber has a very helpful FAQ page on their site that might help answer any other questions you might have.
Spark of Amber carries many other pieces of Baltic amber jewelry, including bracelets, rings, pendants and earrings for adults. I love how each pieces is completely unique. I really love the earthy look and feel of them. Spark of Amber’s prices are also very reasonable, and they offer FREE SHIPPING on all orders! With Christmas right around the corner, I’m thinking of ordering a little something for each of my sisters, and my Mom. I am sure they would be a big hit!
